Egorov’s 40-Save Shutout Leads Bulldogs Past Greyhounds in Sunday at the Memorial Gardens

After suffering a 5–2 road loss to the Flint Firebirds in Flint, Michigan on March 13, the Soo Greyhounds returned home to GFL Memorial Gardens for a Sunday afternoon matinee on March 15 against the Eastern Conference-leading Brantford Bulldogs.

The Greyhounds entered the contest sitting fourth in the Western Conference with a 38-20-1-5 record, while Brantford continued to show why they sit atop the East. In the previous meeting between the clubs on February 1 in Brantford, the Bulldogs edged the Greyhounds 3–2 in a shootout.

Following a scoreless opening period in Sault Ste. Marie, the Bulldogs broke through midway through the second period. At 12:01, Jake O’Brien scored his 25th goal of the season, finishing the play unassisted to give Brantford a 1–0 lead heading into the second intermission.

Brantford added to their advantage early in the third period on the power play. At 5:28, Gabriel Frasca netted his 24th goal of the season, with Marek Vanacker and Jake O’Brien picking up the assists to make it 2–0 for the visitors.

The Bulldogs sealed the win in the final moments of regulation. With the Greyhounds net empty, Cooper Dennis scored his 34th goal of the season at 18:49, with Jake O’Brien collecting the assist to cap a three-point afternoon and secure a 3–0 victory for Brantford.

In goal, David Egorov delivered a stellar performance for the Bulldogs, turning aside all 40 shots he faced to record his fourth shutout of the season. At the other end, Carter George made 18 saves on 20 shots in the loss for the Greyhounds.

The Greyhounds will now hit the road for their next matchup when they travel to Saginaw, Michigan to face the Saginaw Spirit on Wednesday, March 18 with a 7:05 p.m. puck drop. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs return home to host the Niagara IceDogs on March 18 in a 7:00 p.m. matchup in Brantford.
