Eagles Fall to the High Flying Rock

The Pullar Stadium crowd witnessed a fast-paced matchup on Friday, December 5th as the seventh place Soo Eagles (10-16-0-1) hosted the surging third place Timmins Rock (17-5-0-1) in NOJHL action. Despite strong pushes from the Eagles, the Rock’s depth and finishing ability proved decisive as Timmins skated to a convincing road victory.

The Rock established their pace early in the first period. At 10:12, Maxfeld Shin opened the scoring with his fifth of the season, finishing a clean setup from Lucas Lowe and Kaeden McArthur. Timmins doubled their lead late in the frame when Thomas Beard struck for his ninth of the campaign at 18:53, assisted by Kimani Eccleston, giving the visitors a 2–0 cushion through twenty minutes.

The second period saw the Rock continue to push offensively. At 8:38, Victor Hourtouat buried his third of the season on a feed from Travis Poan and Jack Quevillon, extending the lead to three. The Eagles answered back at 11:58 on the powerplay, as Alex Povorozniouk fired home his fifth of the year with assists going to Liam Watson and Logan Stawizynski, briefly shifting momentum. But Timmins quickly responded. Beard tallied his second of the night at 13:16—his 10th of the season—off a setup from Hourtouat and Quevillon. Just over a minute later, Shin added another at 14:51, his sixth of the campaign, again assisted by McArthur and Lowe, pushing the Rock’s lead to a commanding 5–1 advantage heading into the third.

The Eagles showed resilience early in the final frame when Ilian Danilov scored his third of the season at 6:23, capitalizing on good work from Colton Huckson and Coulson Bell to cut the deficit. But the Rock sealed the game on a powerplay at 15:58, as Kaeden McArthur notched his 16th of the year, assisted by Shin and Lowe—capping off a standout offensive night for the trio.

In goal, Jace Knoerle battled for the Eagles, while Ayden Mullen earned the victory between the pipes for the Rock.

With the win, Timmins continues its push near the top of the NOJHL standings. The Rock now head back across the St. Mary’s River for a key matchup against the Soo Thunderbirds on Saturday, December 6th at the John Rhodes Centre. The Eagles, meanwhile, prepare for a road trip to Hearst on Friday, December 12th where they’ll meet the Lumberjacks.
