On Thursday, November 7th, the Soo Eagles treated over 650 fans at Pullar Stadium in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to a commanding 7–1 victory over the visiting Kirkland Lake Gold Miners in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action.
The Eagles wasted no time setting the tone, striking four times in the opening frame. Samuel Gold opened the scoring at 7:55 with his 3rd of the season, assisted by Nolan Nemecek, before Alex Povorozniouk added a shorthanded tally at 14:52. The home team kept the pressure on, as Carter Huckson made it 3–0 at 18:00 with helpers from Ilian Danilov and Bradyn Walsh, and Anden Marceau capped off the explosive first period with his 16th goal of the season at 19:48 — another shorthanded marker assisted by Logan Stawizynski.
The second period brought more of the same from the high-flying Eagles. Stawizynski found the back of the net at 10:59, assisted by Ethan Hoff, before Marceau struck again at 14:56 on the power play for his 17th goal of the campaign, with Gold adding an assist. Just 42 seconds later, Lucas Caulfield scored unassisted to push the Eagles’ lead to 7–0.
The Gold Miners managed to spoil the shutout late in the period when Mavrick Boucher netted his first goal of the season at 19:37, assisted by Tysen Andersen.
Neither side found the back of the net in the third, as the Eagles closed out a dominant all-around performance.
The Soo Eagles will look to build on their momentum when they host the Sudbury Cubs on Saturday, November 8th at 7:00 p.m. at the Pullar Stadium while the Gold Miners back across the International Bridge to take on the Soo Thunderbirds on Saturday, November 8th at the John Rhodes Centre for a 7:00 p.m puck drop.
