After a high-scoring 6–4 loss to the Hearst Lumberjacks on Friday, December 12th, the ninth-place Soo Eagles (10-18-0-1) continued their northern road trip on Saturday, December 13th, travelling to Iroquois Falls to face the tenth-place Storm (9-18-0-2) in NOJHL action. With both teams entering the contest tied at 18 points in the standings, the matchup carried added importance in the race to climb out of the bottom half.
The Storm came out strong in the opening period, scoring three unanswered goals to take early control. At 7:03, Avery Wease opened the scoring with his fifth goal of the season, assisted by Owen Goodwin and Keegan Fox. Iroquois Falls doubled the lead at 14:52 when Mathieu Ouellette notched his ninth of the campaign, finishing a play set up by Alexandre St. Pierre and Darius Kalantgis. The home side capped the period at 18:20, as Alexandre St. Pierre made it 3–0 with his sixth goal of the season, with assists going to Michael Karadinovic and Thomas Hudon.
The Eagles responded in the second period, cutting into the deficit with a pair of goals. At 2:43, Carter Huckson got Soo on the board, scoring his fourth of the season off a setup from Coulson Bell. Just over two minutes later, at 5:09, Nolan Nemecek brought the Eagles within one, burying his 14th goal of the season with CJ Zaharias earning the assist.
Soo continued to push in the third period and drew even at 5:42 when Logan Stawizynski scored his 12th of the season, finishing a play from Lucas Caulfield and Gabriel Clark to tie the game at 3–3. Despite the comeback effort, the Eagles were unable to find the go-ahead goal as the Storm held on to secure the victory on home ice.
The Eagles will look to bounce back and close out their three-game road trip on Sunday, December 14th, when they visit Timmins for a 1:00 p.m. puck drop at McIntyre Arena.
