Under lights and wet conditions in Sault Ste Marie, the Superior Heights Steelhawks took to the field to close out the 2022 junior Sault Ste Marie High School football with a matchup against the St Mary’s Knights to determine the semi – final matchups for the high school junior semi – finals on October 27 and 28 at Superior Heights.
2:02 into the opening quarter, Albert Perrault gives the Steelhawks a 6 – 0 lead with a three yard carry. Dylan Wooton adds one point to Superior Heightsn lead after a successful convert. Superior Heights quarterback Chase Cerasuolo fires a four yard pass to Nick Dearing at 2:36 of the first with Dearing running two yards for the Steelhawks lead. Wooton brings the lead to 14 – 0 after finding the uprights with the convert. 12 seconds later on the kickoff, Logan Dearing picks up a loose ball after a bounce off of a Knights player to run three yards for Steelhawk major and increase the lead to 21 – 0 after a Wooton convert at the 2:24 mark of the quarter. Ben Trevisanut runs three yards for the Steelhawks fourth major of the game at 10:24 of the second quarter to increase the lead to 27 – 0 lead after a one point conceded by the Knights after an unsuccessful Superior Heights convert.
Superior Heights tackle a St Mary’s player in their own end zone at 6:20 for a Steelhawk safety to bring the lead to 29 – 0. Logan Dearing rushes the ball for a 54 yard touchdown at 1:48 of the second quarter to give the Steelhawks a 36 – 0 lead after Wooton kicking a Superior Heights convert. With the clock running straight time after a 36 – 0 lead, Knights quarterback Alex Hayes runs for St Mary’s lone touchdown of the game at 8:10 of the third to bring the score to 36 – 6. Increasing the Steelhawks lead to 42 – 6, Ben Trevisanut carries the ball 10 yards at 2:03 of the third. Wooton added to the lead with a convert. Giving Superior Heights a 49 – 6 win, Nick Dearing runs 20 yards for the Steelhawks final touchdown of the 2022 junior regular season at 5:58 of the fourth.
The Steelhawks and Knights will face of in the first of two junior semi-finals with the kickoff at 6:00 p.m on Thursday, October 20th while the White Pines Wolverines meet the Korah Colts on Friday, October 21st with a start time of 4:45 p.m.
