In Sudbury, Ontario, the first-place Greater Sudbury Cubs continued their dominant season with a convincing 6–1 victory over the tenth-place Soo Eagles in NOJHL action on Thursday, December 4th.
The Cubs struck first in the opening period when Spencer Horgan notched his ninth goal of the season at 15:11, with assists from Kaedyn Long and Jacob Signoretti to give Sudbury the early lead.
Greater Sudbury wasted no time adding to their advantage in the second period. Just 45 seconds in, Mason Walker buried his 15th of the year, set up by Noah Kohan and Nolan Newton, making it 2–0. The momentum continued at 3:32 when Briir Long netted his third of the campaign off a feed from Tyson Rismond. Only 28 seconds later, Caden Dubreuil struck unassisted to put the Cubs up 4–0.
The Eagles broke the shutout at 13:21 as Samuel Gold scored his fifth of the season, assisted by Ilian Danilov. But Sudbury responded late in the frame, with Long picking up his second of the night and fourth of the season on the power play at 18:39, assisted by Horgan.
In the third, Walker capped off the scoring at 15:02 with his 16th of the season, helped again by Newton, sealing a 6–1 victory for the league-leading Cubs.
The Soo Eagles now return home to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, where they will host the Timmins Rock on Friday, December 5th at 7:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the Cubs will look to keep rolling as they travel to Blind River for a 7:00 p.m matchup against the Beavers on Saturday, December 6th.
