Colts Advance to Junior High School Final After Win Over Wolverines

After the Superior Heights punched their ticket to the junior Sault Ste Marie High School football final on Thursday, October 20th with a semi final win over the St Mary’s Knights, the White Pines Wolverines took to the field at Superior Heights on Friday, October 21st against the Korah Colts for the other spot in the junior final on Thursday, October 27th.

87 seconds into the opening drive, Korah’s Nathan Guizzetti opens the scoring with a fifty yard carry to give the Colts a 7 – 0 lead after a Nixon Blair convert. At 8:31 of the first, Ethan McCorkell kicks a 58 yard punt through the Colts endzone to give the Wolverines single point to bring the score to 7 – 1. Running for for his second major of the contest at 9:21 of the second quarter, Nathan Guizzetti runs for 95 yards to give the Colts a 14 – 1 lead after Blair’s second covert of the semi final. White Pines Adam Hassan returns a punt return for the Wolverines to score a 70 yard touchdown carry to pull the Wolverines within 7. Nashoba Moore finds the uprights for the extra point on the convert to close the gap to 14 – 8 at 9:07. Guizzetti adds to the Colts lead with a 55 yard touchdown at 7:30 with his third touchdown to increase the lead to 20 – 8. With extending his arms across Korah’s goal line as he was tackled, Steve Day Nolan brings the lead to 20 – 14 after a Moore convert with 0.6 seconds remaining in the half.
With a wide open field, Guizzetti carries the ball for another Korah touchdown with a 49 yard run at the 4:23 mark of the third quarter. Blair kicks a convert to give the Colts a 27 – 15 lead. Nathan Higham runs for a two yard major at 5:18 of the fourth to increase the lead to 33 – 15. With 41.6 seconds remaining in the Friday semi final, Wolverine Chris Cormier scores the final points in the semi final with a 15 yard carry after evading two defenders to bring the final score to 33 – 22 with a McCorkell convert.

Wolverine coach William Basawa told Saultsports that  “tonight was an amazing football game not only for our players but for our Wolverine Family. To have the opportunity to host both a theme for our school community, and to support breast cancer awareness, which is a cause that hits near and dear to our hearts, is tremendous.
We gave Korah a tremendous game with the odds stacked against us. Those odds have been there all season, but time and time again our players have answered the call. White Pines is on the rise with our Athletics Program, Musical Productions, Indigenous Education and Amazing Trades Program Upgrades.”

The Colts take their 33 – 22 win over the Wolverines into the 2022 Sault Ste Marie High School Junior Football city championship on Thursday, October 27th at 5:45 p.m kickoff against the Superior Heights Steelhawks. Junior final live be broadcasted live on Saultsports TV.
