Blueliner Wilson Registers Three Points to Help Lead Knights Past Colts

On Sunday, February 5th, Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League action returned after the 2023 high school exam break with the first place (13-0) St Mary’s Knights took to the ice to face the second place (4-8) Korah Colts.

With the Korah on a powerplay at 10:25 of the opening period, Dylan Garson finds the back of Knight goaltender Liam Dubois’ net to give the Colts a 1 – 0 lead. Ronan Provenzano added the lone helper on Garson’s powerplay marker. Scoring their second powerplay goal of the period, Luca Venneri sinks the Colts second with Dylan Garson contributing on Venneri’s powerplay goal at 9:14. At 8:52, Mason Battochio fires Korah third straight powerplay goal behind Dubois to increase the lead to 3 – 0 for the Colts with Dante Scaglione registering the assist on Battochio’s goal. Carmine Perna closes the gap to two with the Knights first of the game at 2:58 with Gabe Zimbaro notching the helper on Perna’s goal. St Mary’s defenseman Dawson Wilson sets up the Knights second goal of the game at 1:45 of the first with Koen Kurylo scoring St Mary’s second of the period. With forty seconds remaining in the period, Wilson sends the Knights into the first intermission even at 3 – 3 with a St Mary’s unassisted goal.

Daniel Guzzo gives the Knights their first lead of the game on a powerplay at 9:46 of the second with Brayden Luzzi and Zimbaro adding the assists. Provenzano nets the Colts fourth powerplay goal of the game at 8:48 to pull Korah even 4 – 4. Connor Chow-Lynn and Battochio set up Provenzano’s powerplay goal. 30 seconds later, Knight blueliner Cole Masse finds the back of Colt netminder Troy Rossetto’s net with an unassisted to give St Mary’s back their lead at the 8:18 mark of the second. Wilson registers his third point of the game with his second goal of the contest at 3:25 with Darion Perrault and Lucas Green adding the contributors on Wilson’s powerplay goal. Kyle Scarfone gives the Knights a 6 – 4 lead at 1:53 of the middle stanza with a pass from Masse. Scoring the final goal of the high scoring affair, Battachio adds to his game total with his second goal of the game with 19 seconds remaining in the second. Provenzano drew the assist on Battachio’s third point of the contest against the Colts.

The Knights return to action on Monday, February 6th with a 3:30 p.m start at the John Rhodes against the Steelhawks while the Colts next game will be on Wednesday, February 8th against Superior Heights at the McMeeken in a 3:30 p.m puck drop.
