Black 18U Sox Dominate the Shamrocks & Defeat Team North 15U in Doubleheader at Home

Coming two wins on Saturday, June 8th in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario at IDA Park, the Soo 18U Black Sox were back in action on Sunday, June 9th when they faced the Sudbury Shamrocks followed by Team North 15U in their second doubleheader of the weekend.

The Black Sox won big over the Shamrocks 20-6 on Sunday afternoon in game one of the doubleheader. The Soo got on the board in the first inning after Lucas Carriere grounded out, scoring one run.

The Black Sox scored tens runs on four hits in the top of the second inning. Zach Allard drew a walk, scoring one run, Blake Cond drew a walk, scoring one run, Keyton Mousseau drew a walk, scoring one run, Lucas DiBerardino hit a sacrifice fly, scoring two runs, Caleb Walker singled, scoring one run, Carriere singled, scoring one run, Carter Young drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Chase Cerasuolo drew a walk, scoring one run.

The Soo scored eight runs on five hits in the top of the third inning. DiBerardino doubled, scoring one run, Kolton Tremblay doubled, scoring two runs, Walker doubled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Cerasuolo drew a walk, scoring one run, Hunter Thorkilson singled, scoring one run, and Allard grounded out, scoring one run.

Cerasuolo earned the win for the Black Sox. The starting pitcher gave up two hits and three runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking four. Cole Landry took the loss for the Shamrocks. The starting pitcher went two innings, allowing 11 runs (nine earned) on five hits, striking out none and walking seven. Walker appeared in relief for the Soo.

The Soo collected ten hits in the game. Carriere drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Black Sox with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. DiBerardino, Walker, and Thorkilson each collected two hits for the hosts. Cerasuolo led Soo Black Sox 18U with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting 12 walks for the game. Walker stole two bases.

Lucas, Chris, and Jeremy each collected one hit for the Shamrocks. Jeremy went 1-for-2 at the plate as the outfielder led the team with one run batted in.

In game two of the doubleheader, Team North 15U Unable To Overcome the Black Sox’s Late-Game Surge.

The Soo snatched the lead late in their 6-5 victory over Team North 15U. The game was tied at five in the top of the seventh when an error scored one run.

The Black Sox came back to win despite trailing 5-0 in the fifth. Team North 15U jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after an error scored two runs, and Evan Ouimet doubled, scoring one run.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Black Sox went back into the lead after Zach Allard singled, and Team North 15U committed an error, each scoring one run.

Hunter Thorkilson earned the win for the Black Sox. They gave up one hit and zero runs over one inning, striking out one and walking two. Tanner Morris took the loss for Team North 15U. The reliever went one and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on one hit, striking out two and walking four. Caleb Walker started on the hill for the Soo. They surrendered four hits and three runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking none. Trent Peters opened the game for Team North 15U. The starting pitcher gave up three hits and four runs over five and one-third innings, striking out four and walking two. Thomas Keough threw one inning of zero-run ball for the Black Sox in relief. The southpaw allowed zero hits, striking out two and walking none.

Kolton Tremblay, Walker, and Allard each drove in one run for the Black Sox 18U. The Soo had patience at the plate, piling up six walks for the game. The Black Sox turned one double play in the game.

Chase Taylor drove the middle of the lineup, leading Team North 15U with two runs batted in. Ouimet and Morris each collected two hits for Team North 15U. Brett Rienguette stole two bases.

Next up for the Black Sox will be a road trip into Michigan over the June 14th to 16th weekend for a tournament in Gladwin.
