An Olympic Visit Inspires Students at École Notre-Dame-du-Sault

Just days before the opening of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, the grade three students at École Notre-Dame-du-Sault were treated to an inspiring visit from one of their local heroes: Olympian and curling champion E.J Harnden.

Originally from Sault Ste. Marie, Mr. Harnden came to share with students his unique experience as a high‑level athlete, bringing along the gold medal he won at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. Speaking to an engaged audience, he recounted memorable moments from his athletic journey, highlighting the perseverance, discipline, and passion required to reach the podium.

As the world prepares to follow the performances of athletes at the 2026 Winter Games, this visit brought the Olympic spirit directly into the classroom. Mr. Harnden offered the students meaningful messages: learning from defeat, persevering through challenges, and believing in one’s potential. This exceptional encounter not only left a lasting impression on the students but also marked a wonderful launch to their new learning unit on the Olympic Games. An inspiring moment that will remain in their memories and perhaps spark future sporting aspirations!
