Burlington, Ont. – Ontario University Athletics (OUA) is pleased to announce the 2021-22 regular season basketball schedules, set to commence on November 3, 2021.

The hardwood has housed many a memorable moment over the years, and after a sport-less season left the gyms empty in 2020-21, OUA basketball is back to write the latest chapter in its storied history.
Among the changes to the basketball format is a transition from three to two divisions, with each team dueling within their own division throughout the condensed 16-game regular season starting on November 3.
The first to tip-off will be the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks against the Brock Badgers and the Guelph Gryphons versus the Windsor Lancers. By being among the quartet of teams to kick off the campaign on opening night, the Brock women’s team has an early opportunity to get out of the gates quickly in their title defence.
The Badgers’ fellow champions from the men’s side, the Carleton Ravens, will soar into the season on November 5 when they battle the Nipissing Lakers in the Ravens Nest.
While fans will not see a championship rematch on either side during the regular season given the adjusted divisional breakdown, there are still several tantalizing matchups to watch for throughout the 10-week campaign across the two semesters.
Among them on the women’s side are a quartet of quarterfinal rematches from 2019. With nearly an entire season of play under their belts, the McMaster Marauders will meet the Western Mustangs for a pair of head-to-head matchups in the penultimate week of play (February 9 and 12). The Badgers, who came back in thrilling fashion against the Windsor Lancers to secure their 2020 semifinal spot, will look for similar magic when they meet up on November 20 and February 12, respectively. The Queen’s Gaels and Ryerson Rams will renew their rivalry to open their respective campaigns on November 5, before combining to close out the fall semester slate on December 4.
The final quarterfinal rematch needs no introduction, as it features a pair of talent-laden teams from the nation’s capital. The Ottawa Gee-Gees got past the Ravens in postseason play last time out and will surely be looking for similar results when they square off to open the winter semester schedule (January 8) and close out the season on February 18.
It will be the same dates on the men’s side when the Gee-Gees, who handed their rivals their only regular season loss of the 2019-20 campaign, take on Carleton, who ended Ottawa’s championship hopes with a convincing semifinal victory.
The other 2020 semifinal rematch, featuring the Mustangs and Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, will also be among the most highly-anticipated games of the upcoming campaign. One of the most thrilling and competitive games of the entire 2019-20 season – one that saw the former claim a 104-103 overtime victory to claim their spot in the Wilson Cup finale – will jump back into the spotlight for a pair of regular season tilts on January 12 and 15.
Additional quarterfinalists from 2020, the Lakehead Thunderwolves and Laurentian Voyageurs, will kick off their campaigns against McMaster and Ontario Tech, respectively, on November 5, as the former looks to build on a campaign that saw them ranked among the nation’s best, and the latter prepares to take the floor following the graduation of the OUA’s three-time defending player of the year, Kadre Gray.
Teams will have not one, but two attempts at victory against each of their divisional counterparts as part of the 16-game regular season, and it will be a thrilling, rivalry-filled conclusion to the campaign as part of the February 19 end date.
