6’1 Silverthorn Commits to Algoma OUA Thunderbirds for the Fall of 2023

Algoma Thunderbird Varsity Athletics announced Wednesday, May 10th that Grace Silverthorn has committed to the Women’s basketball program for the 2023 24 season. Grace, who stands 6’1″, is joining us from the Lo-Ellen Park Prep program of the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association. Her hometown is Orillia, Ontario and she has played the game of basketball since the age of five.

Grace will be studying in the Biology program this Fall at Algoma U. When she’s not playing basketball she enjoys snowboarding, playing hockey, wake surfing, travel and spending quality time with her family and friends.

Grace says she: “chose Algoma because academically the school provides a intimate style of learning which will enhance my success as a Student. Athletically, the head coach Katie creates a competitive and uplifting environment for the team that align with my personality and strengths on the floor.” She adds: “What I will bring to the team and program is a positive attitude towards all practices, workouts, games, and any challenges that may arise. I will strive to be my best for the team both on and off the court. I hope to be seen as a team leader, which I will demonstrate through hard work and my commitment to succeed.”

Head Coach of Women’s Basketball Katie Hamilton says: “We are really excited for Grace to be joining our program. With her size at 6’1, she addresses an immediate need for us on the court. She is still very young in her basketball journey, so we are looking forward to her continued growth and development during her time here. Grace also excels in the classroom bringing a strong academic focus to our daily environment. She is ready and willing to make a positive impact in our community which I’m sure will be felt throughout our campus and with our youth. I’m really looking forward to seeing where this journey takes her and happy to play a role in that!”
