2025 City Championship Preview: Korah Colts vs St. Mary’s Knights

The stage is set for the 2025 Sault Ste. Marie High School Senior Football City Championship, featuring the undefeated Korah Colts and the St. Mary’s Knights in a highly anticipated showdown. The Colts, led by head coach Tom Annett, enter the title game as regular season champions after finishing with a flawless 6-0 record and earning their spot in the championship with a decisive semi-final victory over the White Pines Wolverines.  After finishing the 2025 Sault Ste. Marie High School Senior Football regular season with a 1-5 record, few could have predicted the St. Mary’s Knights would be playing for the city championship. But under the leadership of head coach Jim Monico, the Knights have proven that heart, resilience, and belief can overcome any record. Their thrilling semi-final victory over the Superior Heights Steelhawks has punched their ticket to the championship, setting up a classic underdog showdown against the undefeated Korah Colts.

Korah Colts
Coach: Tom Annett
For Korah, success this season has been built on a foundation of preparation and process over outcomes. Coach Annett credits the team’s attention to detail and daily habits as key components of their dominance. “Through this process, our players have developed great habits for success,” he said. By emphasizing fundamentals over complex schemes, the Colts have focused on shaping well-rounded football players capable of adjusting to any situation on the field.

Despite their perfect record, the Colts are not taking their championship opponent lightly. “The Knights are a very good team and have several players returning from injury,” Annett noted. “All of our attention and effort is focused on this week’s opponent, the St. Mary’s Knights.” That disciplined mindset has been central to the Colts’ program, ensuring that confidence never slips into complacency.

Offensively, the Colts have become increasingly dynamic as the season has progressed. Their passing game has flourished, adding a new layer to an already dangerous offense that forces opponents to pick their poison. Teams that load the box to stop Korah’s run game now risk being burned through the air. Defensively, the Colts plan to mix up fronts and coverages to keep the Knights guessing, while maintaining their focus on tackling, leverage, pursuit, and sound coverage—core elements of Korah’s defensive identity. With a consistent and speedy special teams unit rounding out their attack, the Colts appear well-equipped and ready for another hard-fought championship battle under the lights.

“Every season is a new journey. This year’s Team is strictly focused on the process and preparation for this week’s game. Our Athletes have been emphasizing the process since our off-season TPW Workouts started in February. Our only goal is to prepare as well as we can., said coach Annett.”

St Mary’s Knights
Coach: Jim Monico
Coach Monico’s squad has embraced the challenge head-on and enters the title game prepared and confident. “We have a good idea of what Korah will do, and we’ll be ready for them,” Monico said. “They know that. Our guys are ready to battle.” The Knights understand the magnitude of the moment and plan to leave everything on the field against a Colts team that has been dominant all season.

For St. Mary’s, the key will be to stay true to their identity and focus on execution, one play at a time. The Knights have emphasized a next-play mentality all year—staying composed, learning from mistakes, and never letting a single play define the outcome. That mental toughness has fueled their postseason run and will be essential in slowing down Korah’s high-powered offense.

Led by a strong group of senior players, the Knights have developed a deep sense of unity and pride. Every player and coach in the St. Mary’s program understands what’s at stake and what it will take to win. “We’re confident everyone on the roster and staff will be ready to battle for each other. With momentum on their side and belief running high, the Knights are ready to give the Colts everything they’ve got in a championship clash that promises intensity, emotion, and heart from start to finish,” Monico said.
