Espanola, Ontario played host to an exciting weekend of high-school basketball on November 14th and 15th as the White Pines Wolverines traveled east to compete in the 2025 NOSSA ‘A’ Girls Junior Basketball Championship. The event featured four teams—the l’Horizon Aigles, Algonquin Barons, White Pines Wolverines, and the host Espanola Spartans—battling for regional supremacy.
On Friday, November 14th in the opening round, the Wolverines opened the tournament with a hard-fought matchup against the hometown Espanola Spartans. Despite a strong effort, White Pines came up short in a 35–27 decision. In the second game of the afternoon, l’Horizon defeated Algonquin 35–23, setting the tone for a competitive weekend ahead.
On day in Espnaola on Saturday, November 15th in the 2025 NOSSA semi-finals, Saturday’s action produced two of the tournament’s most exciting games. The morning semi-final saw the Algonquin Barons bounce back with a determined performance, defeating the Espanola Spartans 53–47 to advance to the championship game.
The Wolverines responded with their best game of the weekend in the second semi-final, outpacing the l’Horizon Aigles 59–51 in a high-energy matchup. With the win, White Pines earned their place in the championship showdown against Algonquin.
The 2025 NOSSA ‘A’ junior championship game it was a one-point classic with the final not disappointing. The Algonquin Barons and White Pines Wolverines delivered a tense, tightly contested battle that went down to the wire. Both teams traded leads and defensive stands throughout, but it was the Barons who ultimately edged out a 34–33 victory to claim the 2025 NOSSA ‘A’ Girls Junior Basketball Championship.
With the narrow win, the Algonquin Barons were crowned tournament champions, while the White Pines Wolverines capped off a strong weekend with a well-earned silver medal. The 2025 NOSSA ‘A’ Girls Junior Championship in Espanola showcased exceptional talent, resilience, and sportsmanship—highlighting a bright future for all four participating programs.
