U18AA Greyhounds Open the 2026 U18 AA OHF Championships with a Tie Against the Eagles

After advancing past the Copper Cliff Reds with a 2–1 series win on Friday, April 10th, the Soo Greyhounds opened their 2026 U18 AA OHF Championships campaign in Kitchener on Friday, April 17th, battling the Burlington Eagles to a hard-fought 3–3 draw in their tournament opener.

The Greyhounds wasted no time getting on the board in the first period. Just 1:39 into the game, Brett Archambault scored his first goal of the championships, finishing a play set up by Tye Turco and Ashton Edwards to give the Soo an early 1–0 lead.

In the second period, the Greyhounds extended their advantage at 7:05 when Tye Turco found the back of the net for his first of the tournament, with assists going to Brett Archambault and Sebastian Fera to make it 2–0. However, Burlington responded shortly after, as Lucas Comin scored his first of the championships at 5:19, assisted by Sawyer Abradjian and Adrian Soden, cutting the lead to 2–1. The Soo regained their two-goal cushion on the power play at 3:30, when Archambault struck again—his second of the game and of the championships—off a setup from Turco and Kyle Crack, sending the Greyhounds into the third period with a 3–1 lead.

The Eagles mounted a comeback in the final frame. At 4:31, Benjamin Wallace scored his first of the tournament, assisted by Jackson Fattore, to make it 3–2. Burlington completed the rally at 1:02 when James Donko netted the equalizer, with assists from Wallace and Ethan Mundy, tying the game 3–3 and ultimately securing the draw.

In goal, Trent Borelli got the start for the Greyhounds, while Blake Palmer manned the crease for the Eagles in a competitive opening matchup for both sides.

The Greyhounds will look to build on their performance in their next game at 2:30 p.m in Kitchener against the Jr. Rangers, while the Eagles are set to face the Ted Reeve Thunder at 4:30 p.m as the tournament continues.
