On a wet and rainy Saturday, July 12th afternoon at Superior Heights, the Sault Sabercats U16 team battled the Clarington Knights in quarter-final action of the 2025 Ontario Summer Football League (OSFL) ‘AA’ playoffs.
The Sabercats, who defeated the Knights earlier this season 16-8 in Clarington, were unable to repeat that result in front of their home crowd. Despite a gritty defensive performance in tough conditions, the Sabercats fell 7-2 in a tightly contested and weather-challenged matchup.
Clarington struck early in the opening quarter when running back Oakland Battams broke free for a 70-yard touchdown run at 5:38, giving the Knights a 6-0 lead. Kicker Dawson Moulsdale converted the extra point to extend the advantage to 7-0.
The Sabercats’ lone points came late in the second quarter when the Knights conceded a safety with 3:22 remaining in the half, closing the gap to 7-2. However, the Sabercats were unable to generate any further scoring, with the slippery field and relentless rain stalling offensive progress on both sides throughout the second half.
