The Sault Ste. Marie Winterhawks U15 girls program delivered a statement performance over the April 3rd to 5th weekend, skating to a perfect record and capturing the championship at the prestigious 57th Annual Brampton Canadettes Easter Tournament in Brampton, Ontario.
Facing top competition from across the province, the Winterhawks showcased consistency, depth, and clutch play when it mattered most, finishing the tournament undefeated and bringing home gold.
The tournament opened on April 3rd with a strong start for Sault Ste. Marie, as the Winterhawks blanked the Port Colborne Wave Blue 2-0 in their morning matchup. The team followed that up later in the day with another tight victory, edging the Georgina Golden Hawks White 2-1. The back-to-back wins set the tone early, highlighting the team’s defensive structure and ability to capitalize on scoring chances.
Momentum carried into April 4th, where the Winterhawks continued their winning ways. In their first game of the day, they secured a 2-1 victory over the Smiths Falls Cubs in another closely contested battle. Later that evening, the offense came alive in a big way, as Sault Ste. Marie defeated the Collingwood Lightning Blue 4-1. The win not only capped off a perfect round-robin showing, but also sent a clear message heading into the playoff round.
On championship Sunday, April 5th, the Winterhawks elevated their game even further. In the semi-final, Sault Ste. Marie delivered their most dominant performance of the tournament, overpowering Georgina Blue with an impressive 7-1 victory. The offensive explosion combined with steady goaltending and disciplined play secured their spot in the final.
In the gold medal game, the Winterhawks faced a tough challenge against the Collingwood White Lightning. In a tightly fought contest, Sault Ste. Marie once again showed composure under pressure, battling their way to a 2-1 victory to clinch the championship.
