Stephanie Marin is a 5’9 shooting guard from Timmins, Ontario who will be joining the Thunderbird Women’s Basketball team for the 2021/2022 season.
She played for both her high school team (École Secondaire Catholique Thériault) and the Timmins Selects club program. During her career she achieved many accolades including tournament MVP’s and all-stars but one of her biggest accomplishments included winning silver in her U16 division 1 provincial club final.
Stephanie is enrolled in the four year Business Administration program at Algoma University.
Head Coach Ryan Vetrie said: “I had the opportunity to watch Stephanie play in recent years and she fits what our program looks for. She has played at a high level and has been part of two very good programs. She will bring length and outside shooting which fits our mold. We are excited to watch her get back on the court and showcase her skills here at Algoma.”
When asked why she chose Algoma University Stephanie explained: “After much deliberation I have chosen to attend Algoma University because I believe it’s the best opportunity for me as a basketball player as well as a Student-Athlete. I have always dreamed of playing basketball at the University level while completing my degree for my future career. For me it was the coaching staff alongside the University’s reputation and small class sizes that made my decision that much easier. I am excited for what the future holds and the memories I’ll make here at Algoma!”
Her former Coach Jamie Lamothe said: “Steph is a very hardworking and coachable player. She has the ability to space the floor with her long-range shooting and is not afraid to take it to the basket to make a play. Steph will bring a positive and winning attitude to any team and will help bring the team together with her natural ability to lead. Steph has competed with and against some of Ontario’s best athletes and proved she can compete at a high level at both ends of the floor. Algoma is getting a great player in Steph both on and off the court. I look forward to watching her shine as a Thunderbird”.
Even while practicing basketball year-round, Stephanie explains that she has always kept her schedule full of both working and volunteering throughout her time in both middle school and high school. She prides herself on her ability to be a hard worker as well as juggle multiple responsibilities while still staying true to her passion of basketball.
