The Algoma Thunderbirds faced the Guelph Gryphons the Friday, November 25 and Saturday, November 26 weekend. It was a tough weekend for both teams, although we did see some shining moments from both teams. Kicking things off on Friday, November 25th, the women had a tough first and last quarter of the game, leaving the score 87-33 for Guelph. Bethany Belaktsis was the top scorer of the game with 15 points.

The men’s team started Friday strong, with Guelph only leading by three points after the first quarter. Despite scoring five points over Guelph in the fourth quarter, it was not enough to make up for the second and third. The final score of the game was 90-73 for the Gryphons. Top scorers of the game were Taleh Wade and Johan Germain – both with 17 points.

The women were able to make a couple of improvements on Saturday. However, scoring three points over Guelph in the fourth quarter wasn’t enough for a comeback. With Belaktsis scoring 17 points for the team, the final score of the game ended with Guelph winning 78-46.

The men had us at the edge of our seats for the first half of Saturday’s game. With the Thunderbirds and the Gryphons practically neck in neck until half time, it could have been anyone’s game. Unfortunately, it was the third quarter that caught our team in a bad spot, and although playing better in the last quarter, it wasn’t enough to win the game. Final score of the game was 89-76, with Devin Miron as our top scorer with 18 points.

For their final games until the new year, the team will be traveling to Ottawa.
