he 2026-27 OUA basketball season is set to tip off on October 23 and 24 as the Algoma Thunderbirds men’s and women’s basketball programs open their campaign on home court. Algoma will welcome the Brock Badgers on October 23 before hosting the Queen’s Gaels on October 24 in a pair of exciting early-season matchups. The opening weekend will provide Thunderbirds fans their first opportunity to see both programs in action as they begin their pursuit of success in the Ontario University Athletics conference.
One of the highlights of the season will take place on February 6 when the Thunderbirds honour their graduating student-athletes during Senior Night. The special evening will recognize the dedication, leadership, and contributions of the graduating members of both the men’s and women’s basketball programs. Family, friends, teammates, and supporters will join in celebrating the accomplishments of the graduating class as they prepare to close out their university basketball careers.
The Thunderbirds will wrap up their home regular-season schedule on February 12 and 13 when they host the Windsor Lancers at the George Leach Centre. Following that weekend series, Algoma will conclude the 2026-27 OUA regular season on the road in Thunder Bay against the Lakehead Thunderwolves. With playoff positioning expected to be on the line, the final games of the season promise to be important contests as the Thunderbirds look to finish the regular season on a strong note.
