The 2026 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) women’s and men’s soccer schedules have officially been released, and the Algoma Thunderbirds are preparing for another exciting season on the pitch.
Both the Thunderbirds women’s and men’s programs will open their 2026 campaigns on the road with a challenging two-game opening weekend. Algoma travels to Hamilton on August 28 to take on the McMaster Marauders before making the trip to Guelph on August 29 to face the Guelph Gryphons.
The opening weekend will provide an early test for both Thunderbird squads as they look to establish momentum against two respected OUA opponents.
Throughout the season, Algoma supporters will have several opportunities to cheer on the Thunderbirds at Superior Heights Field, which once again serves as the home venue for both programs. The facility has become a focal point for university soccer in Sault Ste. Marie and will host a full slate of home matches during the fall campaign.
The regular season concludes on home turf during the weekend of October 17 and 18 when the Thunderbirds welcome the Western Mustangs to Superior Heights Field. The final weekend promises to be an exciting conclusion to the regular season as both the women’s and men’s teams look to finish strong in front of their home supporters.
Fans can also expect a new look on the sidelines in 2026. Both the women’s and men’s programs will feature new faces on the coaching benches as additions have been made to the Thunderbird soccer staff heading into the upcoming season. The changes bring renewed energy and fresh perspectives as the programs continue to build and develop within the competitive OUA landscape.
With a demanding schedule, strong opponents, and exciting changes behind the scenes, anticipation is already building for the start of the 2026 season. The countdown to kickoff is officially underway as the Algoma Thunderbirds prepare to represent Sault Ste. Marie on the provincial stage once again.
