The opening weekend of collegiate soccer in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario over the August 31st and September 1st weekend was nothing short of spectacular, with the women Mustangs delivering a standout performance by winning both their games against the Algoma Thunderbirds. On the men’s side, the Mustangs showcased their prowess with a decisive victory on September 1st, but with Algoma displaying impressive teamwork and tactical finesse that left fans cheering, the Thunderbirds opened the 2024 OUA season with a 1 – 1 tie against the Mustangs. The women’s team matched the excitement with a similarly dominant win, demonstrating their skill and determination on the field. Both the women and men’s Algoma Thunderbird soccer programs showed their potential to make a significant impact in the OUA west division.
These thrilling games showed Thunderbirds fans on how energized and promising the 2024 season ahead will be with the Thunderbirds head out on the road for the September 6th and 8th weekend with stops in Windsor on September 6th to face the Lancers and than rounding out the weekend in Waterloo when they meet the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks. Game times will be 6:30 p.m (women) and 8:15 p.m (men) on September 6th while on September 8th the Thunderbirds will kickoff at 1:00 p.m (women) and 3:15 p.m (men) in Waterloo.
