Thunderbirds Killoran and Hill Among CJHL Rookies Heading into 2026

Among the on-ice talent that makes up the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL), an impressive number are piling up points in their initial campaigns in the Jr. A ranks. Among the top rookies in the CJHL are Soo Thunderbird forwards Gavin Killoran and Landon Hill.

As of Boxing Day, among those first-year players who were born in either 2007, ’08 or ’09, there are 77 CJHL rookies, who have collected 20-plus points so far this season.

Soo Thunderbirds rookie forward Gavin Killoran continues to make a strong impression in his first NOJHL season, sitting fourth among all rookies in league scoring as of December 26, 2025. The 17-year-old Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native has showcased both his scoring touch and playmaking ability, tallying 11 goals and 13 assists through 31 regular-season games. Killoran has also proven effective on the man advantage with three power-play goals, averaging an impressive 0.77 points per game, a steady contribution that has made him a key part of the Thunderbirds’ offensive group in his rookie campaign.

Appleton, Wisconsin native Landon Hill has put together a productive rookie season with the Soo Thunderbirds, making his presence felt heading into the 2025 NOJHL Christmas break. The 18-year-old forward has scored nine goals and added 11 assists for 20 points in 30 regular-season games, averaging 0.67 points per game. Standing 5’10” and weighing 172 pounds, Hill’s consistency has helped him climb to 11th overall among NOJHL rookies in scoring, highlighting his offensive growth and reliable two-way play in his first season with the Thunderbirds.

Leading that contingent is Stouffville Spirit (OJHL) forward Hudson Armstrong.

Hailing from Courtice, Ontario, the 18-year-old Armstrong has amassed 49 in 33 games on 23 tallies, including nine on the power play, and 26 assists.

Close behind him sits Gabriel Provencher, who skates for Collège Français de Longueuil (LHJAAAQ).

Another 18-year-old, Provencher plays for his hometown Longueuil, Quebec club where he’s contributed 47 points in 31 outings with 18 goals and 29 helpers for Collège Français.

Tied for third on the rookie scoring leader board is the forward duo of Trevor Hill and Joey Banas who are members of the Portage Terriers (MJHL) and the Buffalo Jr. Sabres (OJHL) respectively.

Both 17, Hill and Banas have supplied 42 points apiece.

Then at No. 5 nationally in rookie numbers is Tyler Hinde, a 16-year-old, who competes with the Mississauga Chargers (OJHL). He has reached the 40-point plateau through 25 contests.
