Thunderbirds Earn Win at 2025 OUA Women’s Curling Championships

The Algoma Thunderbirds Women’s Curling team wrapped up a hard-fought January 31st and February 1st weekend at the OUA Championships, showing resilience and strong execution against some of the top teams in the province.

The Thunderbirds opened the weekend with a gritty 8-6 win over Windsor which set the tone for a competitive showing overall. Later that evening, facing a tough Guelph squad, the team battled fatigue in a challenging matchup ultimately losing 10-2.

Looking to rebound, the team first hit the ice on day two against Western in what turned into a nail-biting contest. Algoma fought hard, pushing the game to extra ends before ultimately falling 7-6 in a close battle where missed opportunities proved costly.

In their final game, the Thunderbirds faced the reigning champions in Laurentian, putting up a strong effort and capitalizing on key ends. Despite their best efforts to claw back, they came up short in the game 9-5 but left the competition with valuable experience and many moments of high-level execution.
