On Friday, February 17th, the Thunderbirds played their final away games of the season in Thunder Bay against the Lakehead Thunderwolves. Although the women had a slower start, they were able to pick things up in the second half of the game. With this being one of the best games of the season, the Thunderbirds only lost by six points, ending with a score of 78-72 in OT. Top scorer of the game was Karly Fracalanza with 22 points. Both Fracalanza and Balaktsis had eight rebounds during the game.
The men’s team had a tough game, and although they were able to get 22 points in the third quarter, it wasn’t enough to make up the difference. Lakehead took the win with a final score of 108-71. Top scorer of the game was Devin Miron with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
The teams then traveled back to Sault Ste. Marie for their next games on Sunday, February 19th for the teams welcomed the York Lions as they played their final home game of the season. The teams also had the opportunity to celebrate the seniors who will be graduating this year. In her final game, Karly Fracalanza scored 25 points making her the top scorer of the game. The team lost to York with a score of 96-51.
The men gave us a great show in the second half of the game, keeping things fairly close between the two teams. The team lost to York with a final score of 78-65. Top scorer of the game was Johan Germain with 16 points. This has been the team’s best season in the last four years, ending off with three wins to the season.

Karly leaves the Women’s program as the NEW leader in rebounds and three pointers made. With 927 points and 89 games played prior to these games, she is the leader in points at Algoma U. Devin will be graduating from the men’s program top five in rebounds, steals & 2nd all-time in assists.
