Successful Weekend at 2023 TMU Open for Algoma Thunderbird Wrestlers

The Algoma wrestling team travelled to Toronto over the November 11th and 12th for the Toronto Metropolitan University Open.

Lilah Fraser has seen great success in her second year on the team. Shad another outstanding weekend, remaining undefeated this season, pinning her opponents in all three matches. Lilah was also named USports Athlete of the Week after her first competition at the McMaster Open.

Rebecca Vann had a great showing, going 2-1 on Sunday, November 12th, the Texas native showed grit and toughness, pinning her opponents in both wins.

Anthony Nighbor had a great bounce back weekend, going 4-1, defeating the defending OUA bronze medalist in the semi finals, before dropping the gold medal match to an experienced former national team member.

Kyle Price won gold at the OUA Championships and bronze at the USports Championships last season in his weight class. He was back on form, going 3-1 on the day. Kyle was able to put points on the scoreclock and grinded out a tough, last-second win against Brock.

Both teams currently hold the 8th spot in USports rankings this week.

The team will travel back to Toronto for the November 18th and 19th weekend for the York University Open.
