On Saturday, April 22nd, the Legion Hapkido competed at the the Northern Ontario Martial Arts Championships in Elliot Lake, Ontario. Master Ivan Bergeron continues a tradition since the 1980’s making this the oldest martial arts tournament in Northern Ontario. The event is sponsored by the United Korean Martial Arts Alliance and was head Collins Hall.
The 2023 Northern Ontario Martial Arts Championships included five events with Self Defense, Forms, Sparring, Weapons, and Team Demo.
The following students competed and placed in their divisions:
- Madison Bariault-Farrell (1st in Forms, 2nd self defense, 1st in Weapons, 2nd in Sparring – Novice 11-12)
- Colton McComb (4th in Weapons, 3rd in Self Defense, 1st in Sparring – Novice 11-12)
- Brooke Irwin (3rd in Weapons, 4th in Self Defense – Novice)
- Jase Irwin (1st in Self Defense, 1st in Sparring, 1st in Forms and 4th in Weapons – Novice 7-8)
- Wendy Chrysler (1st in Sparring, 2nd in Weapons, 3rd in Self Defense and 4th in forms – 36 & Older All Belts)
- Arja Chrysler (3rd in Self Defense, 2nd in Sparring, 2nd in Forms & 2nd in Weapons)
- Zoe Mathieu-Perks (competed in all divisions – Novice 11-12)
- Steven Jensen (4th in Weapons and 4th in Forms – Black Belt Men 36 & Older Division)
