Steelhawks, Knights, Colts and Wolverines Close Out Week One of Sault Ste. Marie Girls High School Basketball

The opening week of Sault Ste. Marie High School Girls Junior and Senior Basketball action wrapped up on Thursday, October 8, with four matchups featuring the Superior Heights Steelhawks, Korah Colts, White Pines Wolverines and St. Mary’s Knights.

The junior division featured a pair of competitive contests, including a two-point victory for Superior Heights over Korah and a 15-point win for St. Mary’s against White Pines. In senior action, Korah delivered a dominant performance against Superior Heights, while White Pines edged St. Mary’s in a five-point battle.

Junior Division
Steelhawks Edge Colts in a Two-Point Thriller

The Superior Heights Steelhawks opened the junior division action with a narrow 31-29 victory over the Korah Colts in a closely contested matchup.

Izzy Brassard led the Steelhawks offensively with 14 points, while Annika Battochio added seven points to help Superior Heights secure the two-point win.

Korah kept the game competitive behind a strong performance from Aurora Aho, who finished with a team-high 13 points. Bailee Agawa contributed six points for the Colts in the hard-fought contest.

With just two points separating the teams at the final buzzer, the Steelhawks came away with a narrow victory to close out their opening week of junior basketball.

Knights Defeat Wolverines
In the other junior matchup, the St. Mary’s Knights earned a 48-33 victory over the White Pines Wolverines.

Autumn Walker-Logan paced the Knights with 11 points, while Chloe Huckson chipped in with 10 points as St. Mary’s finished with a 15-point win.

Nevaeh Eli led the Wolverines with 13 points, providing the offensive spark for White Pines. Chloe Morris and Virginia Grawbarger added five points apiece.

The Knights used a balanced scoring effort to finish the opening week with a victory, while the Wolverines will look to build on their performance heading into the second week of the season.

Senior Division
Korah Colts Dominate Steelhawks
The Korah Colts turned in the most decisive performance of the evening in senior division action, defeating the Superior Heights Steelhawks by a score of 69-7.

Claire Hill led the Colts with an impressive 19 points, while Aiva Miskiw added 14 points to lead Korah’s offensive attack.

For Superior Heights, Caidynce McCormick finished with five points to lead the Steelhawks in scoring.

Korah’s 62-point margin of victory highlighted a dominant opening-week performance as the Colts established themselves with a strong result in their senior division matchup.

Wolverines Hold Off Knights in Senior Battle
The final matchup of the evening saw the White Pines Wolverines earn a 44-39 victory over the St. Mary’s Knights in a competitive senior division contest.

Aspen Devries led White Pines with 14 points, while Niyanna Fox added 11 points to help the Wolverines secure the five-point win.

St. Mary’s received a strong offensive performance from Maddy Pavoni, who finished with a game-high 17 points. Blake Magli contributed nine points for the Knights.

Despite Pavoni’s scoring effort, White Pines finished with the 44-39 victory to close out the opening week of senior basketball action.

Week Two Begins October 14
With the first week of Sault Ste. Marie High School Girls Junior and Senior Basketball now complete, teams will return to the court on Wednesday, October 14, for week two of the season.

The opening week featured close finishes, standout individual scoring performances and decisive victories across both divisions as the Steelhawks, Colts, Wolverines and Knights continue their pursuit of success in the 2026 high school basketball season.
