Soo U18 Black Sox Split Doubleheader in Sault, Michigan with the Blue Devils

Coming two dominating wins in a doubleheader on Tuesday, May 23rd in Pickford, Michigan over the Pickford Panthers, the Soo U18 Black Sox returned to action on Thursday, May 25th for their second doubleheader of the week when they headed across the St Mary’s River to face the Sault High Devils in two games at William Jesse James Field in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan.

In game one of the day, both teams were strong on the mound on Thursday, but Sault Area Sault High Blue Devils Varsity was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over U18 Soo Black Sox on Thursday. Cole Masse started the game for U18 Soo Black Sox and recorded nine outs.

Matt Lumsden led the Sault Area Sault High Blue Devils Varsity to victory on the pitcher’s mound. The righty surrendered one run on two hits over six innings, striking out five.

Masse took the loss for U18 Soo Black Sox. The righty went three innings, allowing three runs on six hits, striking out three and walking zero.

Keyton Mousseau and Caleb Walker each collected one hit to lead U18 Soo Black Sox.

Sault Area Sault High Blue Devils Varsity totaled eight hits. Cale Bell, Drew Adair, and Ethan Cook each had multiple hits for Sault Area Sault High Blue Devils Varsity.

After dropping game one to the Blue Devils, the U18 Soo Black Sox managed through a push by Sault Area Sault High Blue Devils Varsity in the fifth inning where U18 Soo Black Sox coughed up four runs, but U18 Soo Black Sox still won 12-7 on Thursday. The big inning for Sault Area Sault High Blue Devils Varsity came thanks to singles by Avery Wilson and Odin Medrick and sacrifice flies by Matt Lumsden and Ethan Chambers.

There was plenty of action on the basepaths as U18 Soo Black Sox collected 14 hits and Sault Area Sault High Blue Devils Varsity had four.

In the first inning, U18 Soo Black Sox got their offense started. Keyton Mousseau doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

U18 Soo Black Sox notched three runs in the fifth inning. Cole Masse, Lucas Carriere, and Nolan Toni all drove in runs in the frame.

Gavin Lamming led the U18 Soo Black Sox to victory on the hill. Lamming surrendered one run on zero hits over three innings, striking out two and walking one. Carriere threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Denvy McCord took the loss for Sault Area Sault High Blue Devils Varsity. The righthander went three innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and striking out four.

Chambers started the game for Sault Area Sault High Blue Devils Varsity. The pitcher went two innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, striking out two and walking one

U18 Soo Black Sox tallied 14 hits in the game. Mousseau, Michael Starzomski, Toni, Connor Bruzas, and Lamming each collected multiple hits for U18 Soo Black Sox. Mousseau went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead U18 Soo Black Sox in hits.

McCord led Sault Area Sault High Blue Devils Varsity with two hits in three at bats.

The Black Sox will round out their week with another doubleheader when they face the Varsity Rayders in Charlevoix, Michigan on Friday, May 26th with game times of 4:00 p.m and 6:00 p.m.
