Nothing came easy for Black Sox 18U on Monday, May 23rd in game two of the doubleheader in Rudyard, Michgan as they fell 12-2 to Rudyard Bulldogs Varsity.
Rudyard Bulldogs Varsity scored six runs in the fifth inning. Tate Besterman, Tanner Baker, Adam Bickel, and Austin Warner powered the big inning with RBIs.
EJ Suggitt pitched Rudyard Bulldogs Varsity to victory. The ace lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out seven and walking one. Warner threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Cole Masse took the loss for Black Sox 18U. The righty surrendered six runs on seven hits over four innings, striking out two and walking zero.
Jayce Hill-Pine, Wesley Pomeroy, Masse, Matthew Forsey, Connor Bruzas, and Ty Beaupre each collected one hit to lead Black Sox 18U.
Rudyard Bulldogs Varsity tallied 12 hits. Suggitt, Warner, Bickel, and Besterman each had multiple hits for Rudyard Bulldogs Varsity. Suggitt led Rudyard Bulldogs Varsity with three hits in three at bats.
Game One
Black Sox 18U fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 13-3 loss to Rudyard Bulldogs Varsity on Monday, May 23rd for game one of the doubleheader. Rudyard Bulldogs Varsity scored on a home run by EJ Suggitt, a triple by Brett Mayer, and a single by Eli Sprague in the first inning.
The Black Sox 18U struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Rudyard Bulldogs Varsity, giving up 13 runs.
In the first inning, Rudyard Bulldogs Varsity got their offense started. Rudyard Bulldogs Varsity scored three runs when Suggitt homered.
Rudyard Bulldogs Varsity scored five runs in the fourth inning. Austin Warner, Tate Besterman, Mayer, and Tanner Baker all drove in runs in the frame.
Mayer was the winning pitcher for Rudyard Bulldogs Varsity. The bulldog went three innings, allowing zero runs on two hits and striking out six. Landen Mayer and Cam Peterson entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Connor Bruzas took the loss for Black Sox 18U. Bruzas lasted three innings, allowing six hits and eight runs while striking out one.
Wesley Pomeroy went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Black Sox 18U in hits.
Mayer led Rudyard Bulldogs Varsity with three hits in three at bats. Rudyard Bulldogs Varsity stole seven bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Warner led the way with two.
Next up will be on Wednesday, may 25th in Pickford, Michigan when the Black Sox take on the the Pickford Varsity Pirates in a double header at 4:15 p.m and 6:30 p.m.
