Over the March 22nd to March 25th, the Soo U15 Greyhounds hit the road to join the Copper Cliff Reds, Kapuskasing Regional Express, Nickel City Sons, and the hosts, the North Bay Trappers in Powassan, Ontario to take part in the 2024 U15 NOHA Tournament of Champions.
U15 Soo Greyhound coach Mike Fera told Saultsports that “heading into this tournament our message to the team was simple. “Enjoy the experience and work hard.” Throughout the tournament we were battling injuries and the rest of the players really stepped up to fill the void. We had solid goaltending and commitment to team defense. To limit a highly skilled Nickel City Sons team to one goal over two games really showed their dedication to that aspect of the game. The team really grew over the past few days and played selfless hockey which allowed them to be successful this past weekend, and especially in the games that really mattered. In preparation for the OHF we are going to continue working on the same things we have all year long. Keep focusing on the process, pushing the pace in practice and refining our team play. Hopefully get healed up and see what we can do down in Oakville.”
“Winning NOHA’s was a unreal experience. Our team played so well together all weekend, and I’m just so happy to be apart of this great group. For us to be successful in Oakville for OHF’s we have to compete hard in practice leading up to the tournament, follow the coaches game plan, play unselfish, intense, team hockey every minute as we are competing against the best in Ontario,” added Aiden Giovanatti.
The Soo U15 Greyhounds will represent the NOHA at the 2024 OHF U15 AA Championship that is being hosted by the Oakville Rangers Hockey Club and is scheduled to take place from April 19-21, 2024.
