Over the March 25 – 27 weekend in Timmins, Ontario, the Soo U13AA Greyhounds took part in the 2022 NOHA Tournament of Champions along with the Timmins North Stars, Copper Cliff Reds, North Bay Trappers for a chance to represent Sault Ste Marie and the NOHA in Copper Cliff in the 2022 OHF U13AA Championship over the April 22 – 24 weekend.

Coach Mike Fera told Saultsports that “this weekend was a really fun weekend of hockey. The organizing committee in Timmins did a great job hosting this event. Overall I thought that the team played well. We had some really strong team performances over the weekend and the players did a great job supporting each other and playing as a team. The group did a great job focusing on fundamentals, and doing the simple things well. The last few years have been challenging, especially for the kids. This weekend felt like we finally got back to a bit of normalcy. Being able to watch all the games, cheering on the U11 Jr. Hounds in their Finals, and having everyone together at the rink to be able to participate in opening ceremonies was a great feeling to get back to. The little things like shaking hands at the end of a game and chatting with players on opposing teams between games was something that these kids have not been able to experience in years.”

“Moving forward we will continue to put in the work during practices and gain valuable game experience at the Mary Parkinson Memorial tournament in Richmond Hill. We will continue to focus on the process and stay in the moment as we look to build upon our success as we move forward to represent at the OHF’s,” added Fera.

With winning the 2022 NOHA Tournament of Champions in Copper Cliff, the Soo U13AA Greyhounds will head to the 2022 OHF U13AA Championship over April 22 – 24, 2022 weekend that is being hosted by the Copper Cliff Minor Hockey Association at the McClelland Arena.
