Over the January 17th to 19th weekend, the Soo U11A Greyhounds traveled to Cambridge, Ontario, to compete in the 2025 Cambridge Roadrunners 29th Annual Girls’ Hockey Tournament. The team came into the tournament with high hopes, looking to showcase their skills against strong competition. Over the course of the event, the Greyhounds played four games, finishing with a solid 2-1-1 record. The team demonstrated both offensive and defensive prowess, scoring 12 goals while allowing only 8 in their matches.
With their strong performance throughout the tournament, the Greyhounds’ tournament ended in a tough 1-0 win over the West Seneca Wings in the bronze medal game. The match was a hard-fought battle, with both teams giving their all. The team left the tournament with valuable experience and a sense of accomplishment from their overall performance. The Soo U11A Greyhounds continue to show promise, and the tournament served as a stepping stone for their growth and development throughout the season.
U11A Greyhound coach Sarah Finn told Saultsports that “We are really proud of how our team played and carried themselves throughout the tournament. The girls worked hard, played as a unit, and showed excellent sportsmanship. It was a tough format to compete in, with no quarterfinal or semifinal games, so the round robin games held a lot of weight. The girls fell just short of the gold medal game but were determined to return home with the bronze and they did! It was a great exercise for the team as we prepare for our ultimate task – competing at the OWHA provincial championships in April. We always return home, having learned from our experience and ready to get back to work!”
