Soo Selects U13 Slug Out a Win Over Soo Michigan

The Soo Selects 13U won 14-13 in a hard-fought game against the Soo Michigan Sluggers on Sunday, July 14th . All eleven players in the Soo Selects lineup reached base in the match, with the team collecting 11 hits total.

The Selects’ pitcher Carter Rome picked up the win on the mound, going 4 scoreless innings, while striking out 6 batters with zero walks. His brother, third baseman Presley Rome, reached base three times in the win.

The Selects’ offence was led by Maddux Guzzo, who registered three hits, including a double and a walk, while Cohen Milito, Damian Beharriell, and Brayden Boulrice each recorded multiple hits of their own.

Tyler Binkley Jr. also added a double.

“I think we came out to a slow start and found our footing in the third inning,” coach Brandon Dewar said after the game. “The team was ignited by an amazing pitching performance from Carter Rome. Our team showed incredible resiliency, and was able to battle our way to a win against a very respectable opponent.”

The Selects entered the game coming off of two victories in the local 16U Mid-Season tournament at Sinclair Yards the week prior, in which they defeated the U16 Royals by a score of 3-2, as well as defeated the league-leading U16 Tigers by a score of 10-7. The Selects’ pitcher Gregory Beckerson recorded a save in both games, striking out the side in both of his appearances.

Next action for the Soo Selects U13 will be at Sinclair Yards, Sunday, July 21st , where they will play a double-header against the local Soo Selects U15 club.
