Soo City United U13 Girls Make a 2021 Splash Debut in Sudbury

(Sudbury, ON) The Soo City United U-13 girl’s rep soccer team successfully made their debut this past weekend with a pair of wins against the Sudbury Impact U-14 team.

After a tightly contested start on Saturday, Sienna Magli opened the scoring at the half-way mark of the first half with a burst of speed down the left sideline, beating the defender and firing a shot into the back of the net. Minutes later it was Bianca Biagini getting on the score sheet with a brilliantly executed set piece.

In the second half of the rain filled game, the Soo team came out guns a blazing with a snipe from Lila Jarrett and two more goals from Sienna Magli to complete the hat trick. Celina Pinelli rounded out the scoring with a solid strike from the penalty spot to make the final 6-1.

In Sunday morning action in Sudbury, the Soo team was on the attack early with Bryce Gagnon and Sienna Magli scoring first half goals. Kaitlyn Johnson then finished a nifty passing play by firing a shot passed the goalkeeper for her first goal of the season. Later it was more from Bryce Gagnon who sealed the victory with a hat trick.
“Soccer is back in Northern Ontario! I am so happy for our girls and for the Sudbury team as well to get back on the field with these friendly games. This was the first action of any kind for our team in almost two years and I was really pleased with the effort from our players”, said Soo City United Head Coach, Michael Magli.

“The girls really committed to playing as a team, we passed the ball well at times and got goals from six different players this weekend. The girls subscribed to team defense, limiting the number of scoring chances from Sudbury and we saw great goaltending from Malaya Schikofsky.” The goalkeeper finished the weekend with a clean sheet on Sunday in the 6-0 victory,” added Magli.

Next action for Soo United U13 girls will be against the Sudbury Impact on Sunday, August 8th, 11:00 a.m at Tom Tipton field in Sault Ste Marie.
