The Sault Surge Aquatic Team hosted the first North Eastern Ontario swimming meet of the season over the October 24th to 27th weekend. Almost 250 athletes representing 10 clubs attended the competition.
89 local athletes represented the local Sault Surge Aquatic Team starting the season off successfully with 353 new personal best times and winning 49 individual events.
Surge athletes led the meet with 147 top 3 performances ahead of the next best Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club with 108 top three performances.
Swimming to personal best times in each and every race swam at this meet were Adam Abbasy, Judah Erickson, Rowin Godin, Daniel Pazmino, Julio Pazmino, Miriam Ahonen, Brooklyn Barber, Romy Doucet, Maxime Morin, Kamryn Pinder, Addison Smith, Georgia Valle and Sydney Walker.
Swimming to individual event wins in their respective age groupings were Emma Vallee with 5 individual event wins, Sophi LI with 4 event wins, Asher Leask and Balin Evans with 3 each.
Winning 2 individual event wins were Sophie McMillan, Eva Moreau, Oliver Costa, Ryan Dunne, Solomon Suraci, Alma Da Silva Castillejo, Maddison Erb and Surina Evans. Also picking up individual event wins were Lenden Ellis, Judah Erickson, Rowan Godin, Blake Kriven, Andrew Li, Graham Oak, Ben Barber, Alex Bravener, William Paranuik, Bernard Santos, Spencer Smith, Brooklyn Barber.
The Surge also picked up relay wins in the boys 15/over 4x 50m medley relay as well as the girls 13-14 4x 50m freestyle relay. The girls 11-12 freestyle relay team of Angela Thomson, Maddison Erb, Brooklyn Barber and Eva Moreau earned first place and just narrowly missed a club record by less than a second. They will have a few more opportunities to chase down the record set in 2019.
The Sault Surge returned to training immediately with swim meets slated for Sudbury and North Bay in November.
The John Rhodes Community Centre pool will host the best of the region in February at the Dave Kensit Memorial NEOR championships. So far 39 local swimmers have met the qualification standard to compete at the meet in February 2026.
