The Sault Surge Aquatic team will be hosting their 2026 Superior Shores Challenge Cup over the April 24 to 26 weekend at the John Rhodes Community Centre pool.
Over 160 athletes representing clubs from Thunder Bay, Temiskaming Shores, Sturgeon Falls and Blenheim will be in attendance. Swimmers will compete to earn points by finishing in the top eight of their respective events to go towards the overall challenge cup that will be awarded at the end of the weekend.
Racing begins Friday at 5:00 pm with 3 sessions on Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m, 1:00 p.m, and 5:30 p.m. The meet concludes with a session on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
Sault Surge athletes have been busy with this upcoming weekend being the third racing opportunity in three weeks with competitions in Windsor and North Bay in previous weekends.
Over the April 17 to 19 weekend 28 athletes competed at the Windsor International Aquatic Centre with over 600 athletes representing 18 clubs at the Lou Pocock Invitational hosted by the Windsor Aquatic Club.
216 new personal best times were established as well as four new club records set to go along with 31 medals of which eight were gold.
Winning gold medals were Oliver Bennetto, 15, with 2, Finnley Walker,12, Haylen Leonard, 18, Sophia Li, 14, Elsa Mackay, 13, and Emma Vallee, 14. Setting new club records were Asher Leask, 10, setting a boy’s 10 and under record in the 50m butterfly. Judah Erickson, 12, set two records in the boys 11-12 50m and 100m breaststroke events. Andrew Li, 16, set a boy’s 15 and over record in the 50m backstroke event.
