On Saturday, August 26th, 80+ drivers hit the world’s fastest 1/3 mile track at Laird Raceway to take part in the 2023 Mike Parsons Memorial 73 lap Super Late Model season event for a chance to take home the $10,000 Super Late Model first prize along with a show that included Modified, Factory Stock, Four Cylinder, and Enduro short track racing in front of over 5000+ race fans from across the province of Ontario and the state of Michigan.
18 cars took to the track just as the sun set at Laird Raceway for the 2023 Mike Parsons Memorial 73 Lap feature for a chance to win $10,000 for the driver who would take home the checkered flag. Gilford, Ontario driver #3 Dario Capirchio made the eight hour trek to Northern Ontario to look to repeat after winning the 2022 Mike Parsons Memorial at Laird Raceway. Sault Ste Marie’s 19 year old driver Chase Wilson held off seventeen other drivers to lead the #77 to a first place finish to hoist the $10,000 cheque in front of hometown fans on August 26th. Innisfil, Ontario #17 Brandon Passer drove to a $6,000 second place finish behind young gun Wilson. Veteran #3R driver Shawn Ritchie of Sault Ste Marie held off #61 Dustin Jackson for third and a $2,500 payday. With the first place finish for Wilson, the Sault Ste Marie driver was crowned the 2023 Laird Raceway Super Late Model champion.
In the modified feature for a chance to win $750 on Saturday evening in front of 5000+ short track race fans, #22 J.P Delpaggio, #84 Mark Laakso, and #78 Jason Herrington battle throughout the 30 lap feature with Delpaggio passing Echo Bay, Ontario’s Laakso in the final three laps to capture the modified feature to take home the feature win ahead of Laakso. With the third place finish in the modified feature, Herrington held off Laakso in the points standings to win his first modified season championship at Laird Raceway.
With ten cars taking to track at Laird Raceway for the 30 lap factory stock feature, rookie factory stock #4 driver Dale Tucker hoisted the $750 cheque to be crowned the factory stock winner ahead of John Ross who was piloting the #01 General Lee for the first time this season to take home second place. Ed Lapish rounded out the top three in the factory stock feature.
With winning all but one four cylinder feature in the 2023 Laird Raceway season, #5 Tyler Praysner battled lapped traffic to hold off #16 Dyllen Sherrard to win the 2023 four cylinder feature to win the 2023 Four Cylinder points standings and being crowned the 2023 division champion. Fern Mannarino brought home third to round out the top three in the four cylinder feature.
Just before midnight on Saturday, August 26th, 16 Enduro drivers took to the 1/3 mile oval at Laird Raceway to close out the successful and exciting 2023 short track racing season with #86 Dylan Connolly holding off #19R Jacob Ritchie to win the Enduro feature. #6 Francis Johns crossed the finish line for third in the Enduro feature to close out 2023.
