On August 1, 2025 in a milestone moment for Sault College athletics, the Cougars football team made a powerful statement in their inaugural game, defeating the GTA Grizzlies 64–7 in their Ontario Football Conference (OFC) season opener.
The Friday evening showdown in Aurora marked the first official game in school history for the newly established Cougars football program — and the team delivered in dominant fashion. The Cougars set the tone early and maintained control throughout the contest, showcasing explosive offense, swarming defense, and disciplined special teams.
With this historic win, the Cougars earned not only their first victory but also sent a strong message to the rest of the OFC.
Cougars coach Paul Orazietti told Saultsports that “it was a nice way to start our season and it is a reflection of the hard work the players and coaches have put in during our recent training camp. It was not a perfect game by any measure and we still have lots to clean up as the competition will get significantly better next week versus the Hamilton Hurricanes.”
The Cougars are back on the road for their second OFC contest of the season when they take on the Hurricanes on Saturday, August 9th in Hamilton, Ontario.
