Omollo Register Two Points to Help Knights Double Up on Colts

At the John Rhodes Centre on Monday, March 7th, the St Mary’s Knights took to the ice to face the Korah Colts in Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League action. The Colts were coming off a 4 – 2 win over the Superior Heights Steelhawks in March 6th while the Knights took to the ice after an 8 – 2 win over the Steelhawks on March 2nd in high school action.

4:53 into the opening period, Tyler Caruso found the back of St Mary’s goaltender Joel Belec’s net to give the Colts a 1 – 0 lead with Ronan Provenzano and Laake O’Neil notched the contributors on Caruso’s goal. Nathan Palmer even the game 1 – 1 for St Mary’s with the Colts first goal of the behind Korah netminder Matthew Gagne 27 seconds past the midway mark of the middle stanza. Christian Omollo and Cole Masse drew the assists at 9:33 of the second. With 58 seconds remaining in the period, Kyle Scarfone sends the Knights into the second intermission up 2 – 1 with a Nik Vecchio adding the lone helper on Scarfone’s go-ahead goal. Provenzano registers his second point of the game with Korah’s second goal at 9:23 of the third with Brett Morgan setting up Provenzano’s goal. Christian Omollo fires an unassisted goal for St Mary’s to give the Knights a 3 – 2 at the 6:08 mark of the final period behind Gagne. With forty seconds left in the game, Daniel Bumbaco assists on Scarfone’s goal to give the Knights a 4 – 2 win over the Colts.

The St Mary’s Knights and the Superior Heights Steelhawks round out the 2021 – 2022 high school hockey regular season with a puck drop at 3:30 p.m on Wednesday, March 9th at the John Rhodes Centre.
