After narrowing defeating the Sudbury Spartans on Saturday, June 10th in Sault Ste Marie 34 – 28, the Sault U16 Junior Sabercats hit the road to face the Clarington Knights in Courtice, Ontario on Saturday, June 17th in Ontario Summer Football League junior varsity action.

Five different players scored touchdowns in the Sabercats 53 – 0 shutout with Will Middaugh leading the Sault with three majors in the win. Garrin Pine added two touchdowns while Nathan Guizzetti, Ethan Serro, and Cole Rivet also found the Knights end zone for one touchdown a piece. Payton Melchiorie and Garrin Pine each caught two point conversions while Nashoba Moore found the uprights on the last major of the game after Middaugh’s third touchdown of the afternoon in Courtice. Garrin Pine, Hayes, and Varpio all had action at quarterback in the 53 – 0 shutout win over the Knights.

Sabercat co-coach Will Basawa told Saultsports that “firstly, hats off to the Clarington Knights, they didn’t stop battling the whole game. Middaugh finally had his breakout game, he’s an athlete with great size so we were excited to see it happen. Pine contains to be a Jack of all trades. Rushing, passing, Receiving; it’s truly impressive to see someone do it all week to week, game after game. That was the first time we really looked like a one team this season.”

“I hope the boys take the positives and use it as motivation to help work on the negatives. If this team plays to it’s potential, it could be something special,” added Basawa.

The Sabercats will now head back on the road for the second straight weekend with a stop in Barrie, Ontario for a June 24th matchup against the Huronia Stallions.
