Men and Women’s Algoma Thunderbird Basketball Programs Fall to the Bold and Blues on the Road

Over the November 2nd and 3rd weekend, the Algoma OUA Thunderbird women and men’s basketball program faced two tough opponents when they hit the hardcourt on the road against the TMU Bold and U of T Blues.

Women’s Game 1 Recap
TMU proved to be a strong opponent for the Thunderbirds as they took a huge lead in the first half of the game. Top scorer of the game for Algoma was Brooke Gruhn with 14 points. Nadia Singh had 8 rebounds.  

Men’s Game 1 Recap
After a close first quarter, the Thunderbirds fell short against their opponent. Ibrahima Yansane was the top scorer of the game with 11 points, and also had 6 rebounds. 

Women’s Game 2 Recap
The Thunderbirds managed to start the game with a 4-point lead over the Varsity Blues in the first quarter. Unfortunately, UofT made up the difference and took the lead over Algoma. Top scorer of the game was Kaila Fong with 16 points. Brooke Gruhn led with 8 rebounds. 

Men’s Game 2 Recap
Another tough game for the men, with UofT dominating in the 4th quarter. Top scorer of the game was Johan Germain with 10 points, with Jean-Michael Senatus getting 5 rebounds. 

Looking Ahead, The Thunderbirds are excited to host their 2024 – 2025 home opener over the November 8th and 9th weekend in Sault Ste Marie at the GLC! The teams play Queen Qaels on November 8th at 6:00 p.m (women) and 8:00 p.m (men), and the action continues the following day on November 9th against Ontario Tech Ridgebacks at 6:00 p.m (women) and 8:00 p.m (men).
