Lappalainen Registers Ten Points as U15 Greyhounds Sweep Weekend in Timmins

The Soo U15 Greyhounds headed north over the November 1st and 2nd weekend for a three-game set against the Timmins Majors in Northern Ontario AAA Hockey League action — and came home with a clean sweep, outscoring their opponents 22–5 across the series. Leading the charge was forward Matti Lappalainen, who posted an incredible ten points over the weekend.

The Greyhounds opened the trip on Saturday morning with a dominant 9–1 win. Lappalainen led the way with five goals and three assists in the victory. He opened the scoring at 13:58 of the first period, assisted by Gavyn Nevers, and added his second midway through the frame. Wyatt Jarrett and Jayden Fisher-Ruck also found the back of the net early, while Timmins got on the board with Jackson Duclos late in the period. The Soo added four more in the final two frames, including Lappalainen’s hat trick marker on the power play, and tallies from Benjamin Campbell, Nevers, and Gregory Beckerson. Carter Rome earned the win in goal for the Greyhounds, while Tyler Storring handled the goaltending duties for Timmins.

Saturday evening’s rematch was a much tighter contest, but the Soo edged out a 4–3 overtime victory. Beckerson and Lappalainen scored first-period goals before Bailey Scott responded with two for the Majors. After Jackson Duclos gave Timmins the lead on a power play in the second, Dante Caruso answered just 15 seconds later to tie the game. In overtime, Wyatt Jarrett played the hero, scoring his eighth of the season at 1:09 with help from Kadin Micomonaco. Benjamin Clayton picked up the win between the pipes for the Greyhounds, while Benson Renaud was in net for Timmins.

In Sunday’s finale, the Greyhounds once again flexed their offensive depth, cruising to a 9–1 win to complete the weekend sweep. Lukas Maninos opened the scoring in the first period, and the Greyhounds exploded with five power-play goals in the final two frames. Lappalainen continued his hot streak, scoring once and assisting on two others. Jasper Jarratt, Micomonaco, Beckerson, and Jarrett all contributed multi-point performances in the win. Carter Rome earned his second victory of the weekend, while Storring was back in goal for the Majors.

With the sweep, the Soo U15 Greyhounds improved their record and gained valuable momentum moving into the next stretch of the Northern Ontario AAA Hockey League season. Lappalainen’s ten-point weekend stood out as a statement performance, highlighting both his scoring touch and playmaking ability for the red and white.
