Korah Colts Capture 2025 Senior City Championship with Win Over St. Mary’s Knights

At Superior Heights Field in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, on Friday, October 24th, the Korah Colts once again proved why they’re the team to beat in local high school football. In the 2025 Sault Ste. Marie High School Senior City Championship, the Colts battled their long-time rivals, the St. Mary’s Knights, in a hard-fought matchup with a ticket to the 2025 NOSSA Championships on the line.

It took less than a minute for the Colts to strike. Just 31 seconds into the game, Payton Melchiorre opened the scoring with a Korah touchdown, followed by AJ Coccimiglio’s extra point to make it 7–0. The same duo connected again at the ten-minute mark of the first quarter to double Korah’s lead to 14–0, giving the Colts early control.

The Knights responded late in the opening frame when Micha Cuglietta split the uprights with a field goal at 4:18 to make it 14–3. Momentum began to shift midway through the second quarter when Cole Rivet powered through for a St. Mary’s touchdown, with Cuglietta’s convert bringing the score to 14–10. Then, with less than a second left before halftime, Cuglietta drilled his second field goal of the game to bring the Knights within one, 14–13, at the break.

The Colts regrouped after halftime. Quarterback Brett Koski connected with Coccimiglio for a touchdown at 5:05 of the third quarter to extend Korah’s lead to 21–13. But St. Mary’s refused to go quietly — Grayson Giordano broke through with a Knights major at 1:52 left in the third, narrowing the gap to 21–19.

Korah quickly answered, with Aiden Wonch restoring a two-score advantage just 87 seconds later. Coccimiglio’s steady foot made it 28–19 heading into the final quarter. Melchiorre sealed the victory for the Colts with his third touchdown of the game at 10:16 of the fourth, and Coccimiglio’s extra point capped off a commanding 35–19 championship win.

With the city title secured, the Korah Colts now turn their attention to the 2025 NOSSA Senior Football Championships, where they’ll face the winner of the Sudbury vs. North Bay semi-final on November 8th. The Colts will hit the road looking to continue their winning tradition and defend Northern Ontario supremacy.
