Under wet and chilly Thursday night conditions, the 2025 Sault Ste. Marie Junior High School Football Championship took centre stage as the St. Mary’s Knights and Korah Colts battled for a berth to the 2025 NOSSA Junior Championships in Sudbury, Ontario. Despite the cold and rain, the Knights’ offense caught fire, leading them to a convincing 35–7 victory over the Colts.
Korah struck first early in the second quarter when Dylan Lajunen rushed four yards into the end zone just 16 seconds into the frame. Nolan Coudert’s successful conversion gave the Colts a 7–0 lead.
The Knights responded quickly. At 9:13 of the quarter, Adam Provenzano broke through the Korah defense for a nine-yard touchdown run, and William Watts’ extra point tied the game 7–7. Provenzano wasn’t done there—just minutes later, he exploded for a 72-yard touchdown carry to give St. Mary’s a 13–7 advantage.
Before the halftime whistle, St. Mary’s extended their lead when quarterback Reegan DeZordo connected with Vinn Volpe-Sagle on a 31-yard pass, setting up a four-yard rush to the end zone for a 19–7 Knights lead heading into the break.
The Knights continued their offensive dominance in the third quarter. DeZordo fired another strike to Provenzano, who powered through for a 21-yard completion before finishing the drive with a one-yard touchdown carry. Tyler Cady caught the ensuing two-point conversion to push the score to 27–7.
Provenzano capped off an incredible championship performance in the fourth quarter with his fourth touchdown of the game—a five-yard run at 6:53. Cady added his second two-point conversion of the night from DeZordo to seal a 35–7 victory for the Knights.
With the win, the St. Mary’s Knights are crowned 2025 Sault Ste. Marie Junior Football Champions and now shift their focus to the 2025 NOSSA Junior Championship in Sudbury on Saturday, November 1st.
