High School Girls Basketball Tips Off with Exciting 2025 Opening Night

The 2025 Sault Ste. Marie High School Girls Basketball season officially tipped off on Tuesday, September 30th, with a full slate of junior and senior action. Four games were on the schedule as the Korah Colts traveled to Superior Heights to face the Steelhawks, while the White Pines Wolverines welcomed the St. Mary’s Knights.

Junior Division
The Colts opened their season in dominant fashion, defeating the Steelhawks 50–20. Leading the way for Korah was Molly Filice with a game-high 14 points, while teammates Aja Tomas (9) and Arabella MacLachlan (8) also provided key contributions. For Superior Heights, Andi Annett netted 6 points and Eva Robinson added 4.

At White Pines, the Knights edged the Wolverines in a hard-fought 35–32 victory. St. Mary’s was powered by Madelyn Pavoni, who scored 17 points to pace her team, while White Pines’ Niyana Fox was outstanding with 21 points in the loss.

Senior Division
In senior play, the Korah Colts and Superior Heights Steelhawks battled in a close contest, with Korah pulling out a 34–30 win. Claire Hill carried the Colts with an 10-point performance, supported by Taylor Metcalf’s 6 points. For the Steelhawks, Leah Yule and Nadia Duke led the scoring with 10 and 6 points, respectively.

Meanwhile, St. Mary’s came out on top 35–29 over White Pines in another tight matchup. Mady Perhonen scored 10 points to lead the Knights, while Aspen Devries had a strong outing for the Wolverines, finishing with 14.

Looking Ahead
Action continues this week with the Korah Colts visiting St. Mary’s College on Wednesday, October 1st, while the Superior Heights Steelhawks head to White Pines on Thursday, October 2nd. Fans can also look forward to live coverage, as Saultsports TV and True North Radio will broadcast their first junior and senior girls basketball doubleheader of the season on Tuesday, October 7th.
