After earning a 5–2 road victory over the Sarnia Sting on January 15th, the West Division third place (25-14-1-1) Soo Greyhounds continued their road swing on Saturday, January 17th, traveling to Guelph to face the Midwest Division fourth place (18-19-2-2) Guelph Storm in Ontario Hockey League action. The Storm entered the matchup looking to rebound from a narrow 3–2 loss to the Peterborough Petes on January 10th.

The opening period featured tight checking and strong defensive play from both sides, with neither team able to generate a breakthrough. Soo broke the deadlock midway through the second period. At 10:53, Chase Reid capitalized on a turnover and fired home his 16th goal of the season, scoring unassisted to give the Greyhounds a 1–0 lead. The goal energized Soo, who carried the advantage into the third period behind disciplined defensive play.

Guelph responded quickly to start the final frame, tying the game just 42 seconds in when Tyler Hopkins scored his 15th of the season, finishing a play set up by Ethan Miedema. The Greyhounds regained the lead late in the period at 17:00, as Jeremy Martin buried his 15th of the season off feeds from Quinn McKenzie and Marco Mignosa. With the Storm pressing and the net empty in the closing minute, Brady Smith sealed the victory at 19:31, scoring his ninth of the season into the empty net with Mignosa picking up the assist.

Carter George was solid in goal for Soo, helping the Greyhounds lock down the win, while Zach Jovanovski made several key stops for Guelph in the loss.

With the 3–1 victory, the Greyhounds wrapped up a successful road trip and will now return home to Sault Ste. Marie. Soo prepares to host the visiting London Knights on Wednesday, January 21st at the Memorial Gardens, with puck drop scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
