In the Championship Game in the Blackball Basketball Tournament held in Orillia over the weekend, Delaney Elliott made one of two free throws with 2.9 seconds left in the game to lift the Sr. Colts to a thrilling 39-38 victory over their hometown rival St. Mary’s Knights.
Elliott lead all scorers with 17 points including two 3’s. Teammates Lucy Lafrance and Ava Engel added 10 and 6 points respectively.
For the Knights, sharp shooting Ella Zachary hit three more 3’s and finished with 11 points. Ashlyn Noble added 8 and both Keira Kent and Caitlin Senecal finished with 7 points each.
When asked about her thoughts on the Championship Game, Elliott was happy with her teams effort.
“Our team worked extremely hard offensively and defensively all game. Our coaches did a great job keeping us focused throughout the tournament.’
Colts Coach Barret Williams felt his team learned some valuable lessons this weekend.
“We really learned a lot about our team and what we need to work on moving forward. We are excited to get back into the gym. That Championship game was a tough game and really fun to be a part of”.
The Knights Ashlyn Noble added “It was a very good game, both teams battled hard…..It’s going to be a great battle once again on Wednesday!”
Coach Zagordo felt it was another great weekend of basketball for his girls.
“Overall it was a great weekend of basketball for both our Sr. and Jr. girls. The Jr. girls faced some really tough competition and finished 1-2. The Sr. girls went 3-0 including a nice win over Lo-ellen before losing in the Championship game. We’re looking forward to another great game on Wednesday.”
Week 3 actions continues in both Jr. and Sr. action this week as Korah heads to St. Mary’s, while White Pines travels to Superior Heights. The Juniors Tip off at 5:15pm while the Sr.’s start at 7:00pm.
