Over the November 7th and 8th weekend at the Northern Community Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, the Sault College Cougars hosted the Adrian Bulldogs in ACHA men’s hockey action.
In Friday’s series opener, the Bulldogs capitalized on special teams opportunities to skate away with a 4–1 victory. Adrian struck twice on the power play in the opening period and added two more goals in the third before Sault College’s Jacob Kovacs broke the shutout late in the game with his fifth of the season, assisted by Jonah Des Rosiers and Nick Jameus. Cougar goaltender Keenan Marks turned aside 28 of 29 shots, while Adrian’s Lorenzo Culasso made 29 saves in the win.
The Cougars bounced back strong in Saturday’s rematch, earning a 5–3 victory over the Bulldogs. After trailing 2–1 after the first period, Sault College battled back with a balanced offensive effort led by Jacob Kovacs, who completed a hat trick with his sixth, seventh, and eighth goals of the season. Caleb Wood and Cameron Lemcke also found the back of the net, while Nick Jameus and Brock Santa Maria combined for multiple assists in the win. Goaltender Trennis Riley stood tall for the Cougars, stopping 36 of 39 shots.
Next up, the Sault College Cougars cross the St. Mary’s River to take on their NCAA Division II rivals, the Lake Superior State Lakers, in an afternoon showdown on Sunday, November 16th at Taffy Abel Arena in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Puck drop is set for 1:00 p.m.
