On Saturday, September 16th, the (0-4) Sault College Cougars took to the field at home in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario to open the 2023 homecoming weekend with a doubleheader against the visiting (2-2) George Brown Huskies.
The Cougars fell 8 – 1 on Saturday, September 16th at IDA Park to the George Brown Huskies.
George Brown jumped out to the lead in the top of the second inning after O’Dowd homered to right field, scoring two runs, and Wagenhoffee singled, scoring one run.
A single Nolet, an error, and a single by Wagehoffee helped George Brown extend their early lead in the third. Case hit a solo home run to the centre field in the top of the fourth for the Huskies. Lona earned the win for George Brown. They gave up five hits and one run over seven innings, striking out nine and walking four. Lucas Ingratta took the loss for Sault College. The starting pitcher went four innings, surrendering eight runs (five earned) on 11 hits. Jayden Valle went 2-for-4 at the plate to the lead the Cougars in hits. George Browncollected 12 hits in the game with Manakourakis went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead the Huskies in hits. Wagenhoffee, O’Dowd, and Nolet each drove in two runs for George Brown.
Sault College Cougars couldn’t keep up with the George Brown Huskies and fell 16 – 0 on Saturday at IDA Park.
George Brown got on the board in the top of the first inning after Edwards singled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run and Janetta drew a walk, scoring one run.
George Brown added one run in the third after Janetta grounded out.
George Brown scored seven runs on seven hits in the top of the seven inning. Herbeck doubled, scoring one run, Manakourakis singled, scoring one run, Edwards singled, scoring one run, Vallejos doubled, scoring two runs, Tremblay singled, scoring onerun, and Nolet singled, scoring one run.
Owen Daynard took the loss for Sault Vollege Cougars. They went four innings, allowing nine runs (four earned) on five hits, striking out three and walking five.
Travis Rainey, Liam Nordby, Spencer Sundin, and Marc Chamberlain each collected one hit for the Cougars.
Geroge Brown collected 13 hits in the game. Herbeck led the Huskies with three hits in six at bats from the leadoff position. Edwards drive the middle of the lineup, leading George Brown with three runs batted in. They went 2-for-5 in the day. Manakourakis, Tremblay, and Vallejos each collected multiple hits for the Huskies. O’Dowd led George Brown with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up seven walks for the game. Case stole two bases in the game while George Brown turned one double play in the win.
The Cougars will round out their 2023 homecoming weekend with a doubleheader in Sault Ste Marie when they play host to the (4-1) Humber Hawks on Sunday, September 17th with game times of 11:00 a.m and 1:00 p.m.
